Amsterdam’s Festival of Light will be running from 6th December until 19th January and features a wonderful selection of illuminated artworks. You can take an evening walk known as the Illuminade through Amsterdam’s Plantage neighbourhood, which showcases work from new and established artists.
If you wish to get in some late night Christmas shopping, the shops along the town centre route of the Light Festival stay open until 10 PM on Saturday 14th December. To get you in the Christmas mood, shops will be organising special events and providing warm drinks for shoppers.
World Christmas Circus
Running from 19th December until 5th January, the World Christmas Circus returns to Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Carré. The show features some of the circus world’s best acts including Bello Nock, known as ‘America’s best and hardest-working clown’.
Christmas Markets
If you’re looking for a present a little different to what you will generally find on the high street, then you should definitely consider checking out the Amsterdam’s Christmas markets. You can find markets at Leidseplein and Koningsplein.
This year there is also the Winter Market which is being held at the Beursplein. You’ll be able to experience the festivities in this mini-village where you can enjoy mulled wine and a host of other Christmas treats.
