Before Posting

Look at articles that have been already posted. Check-out their format, look at the titles, topics, text, links.

Planenews is a privately owned site

You can't post anything you want on Planenews.. Only aviation news will be accepted, and only those I accept. You may not be informed of why your post wasn't accepted. It happens.. Sometimes too many stories are posted, or there just are more interesting news. Don't take it personally. Your efforts are much appreciated, please keep sending good stories. Your post may be posted later, when needed.

Responsibility

Posters are responsible for their posts and the effect they might have on readers. Planenews admins will not necessarily verify the accuracy of news articles. Make sure your news come from a reputable source if you are not the original writer.

Copyrights

Most published news are copyrighted. There is however a grey area of "fair use" when linking to news articles. If you post a copyrighted published news article, only include 2-4 sentences in the Story Text box, followed by the link, as described below. Only publish the whole article when it is a press release from an agency or business, or you own writing.

Commercial Posts

Posts of a seemingly commercial nature are not allowed. If your goal is to advertise your business, your article will probably be rejected. That said, if you regularly post non-commercial aviation news, I might let it through, just don't write it like a blatant advertisement. If you really want to submit a commercial post, then it is just that, a commercial, and needs to be paid for. Use the Feedback link or send a private message to Gil for prices.

Title

The title should be capitalized, like: "The Title Should be Capitalized." and end in a period. Make sure you don't use the & sign (our RSS feed can't contain &). Also, do not replace single or double quotes by their HTML coded equivalents.

Topic

Choose your topic carefully in the drop-down menu provided. If the article could fit under more than one topic, choose the most relevent one. If you have admin privileges, you will be able to attach associated topics to your article, otherwise, I will do that.

Types of News

Aviation news only, but we tend to avoid:

• Airline new routes.
• Airline financial data.
• Small plane accidents (less than 4 passengers), except unusual circumstances.
• Unmanned space news (probes, satellites).
• New staff announcements, CEO, etc. But for major businesses.
• Never-hear-of businesses news, unless particularly interesting.
• Links to news posted on other aviation news sites (find different source).
• Old news, more than 5 days or so..

Story Text

The Story Text box is used to post the main, first paragraph of your news article. Anything more than 2-4 sentences should go in the Extended Text box below. Do not include any HTML code in the Story Text box, except for the link, as explained further below. Do not include images or bold text there either. Firefox users may have to first click on the left-justify icon below the box before being able to type. The paragraph should be one block, without skipping lines, centered text or any type of formatting.

Story Text Link

If you are posting a copyrighted article with a link, which is most likely, you need to post that link at the end of the paragraph. The text of the link should be "Full Story" capitalized, NOT in bold, and followed by a period after the end of link tag. Do not use other words. The reason for this requirement, other than consistency, is that we have a script running that needs to recognize those two words to perform some required operations. The link should point, of course, to the original article.

Extended Text

When posting a full length article, the bulk of the article, but for the first 2-4 sentences should be posted in this box. You may use some formatting there, but don't go crazy with it. No ads allowed. Small Pictures are tolerated if they don't cause copyright infringements and are directly related to the article.

Known Bug

There is a bug in our software preventing the posting of news containing the word "union". This has nothing to do with unions, but must have been intended as a safety measure to avoid SQL injection attacks to the site. Not the best way to go.. We are looking for that code, trying to correct the problem. In the mean time, modify your posts accordingly. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Admins, After Posting

After publishing your articles, you need to verify that they do not break our RSS feed. Go to , and make sure the feed is validated correctly. If not, edit your post to fix the problem right away.

I would like to also encourage people to discuss articles by posting comments. So, if you have a strong opinion about an article you posted, let everyone know, post a comment!
