“Desert Wolf”, a home made microlight aircraft made by Mogomotsi Gaebepe of Kasane, will join other aircraft in the air early next year.
Vice President Ian Khama Seretse Khama, Assistant Minister of Finance and MP for Chobe Duncan Mlazie and the Minister of Communications Science and Technology, Pelonomi Venson have now funded the light aircraft, which has been pending completion for several months.
The microlight plane, which was initially estimated to cost Gaebepe P50 000 to complete, will now have a final cost tag of P75 000 for it to be completed. The parts Gaebepe needed most until this time was the wings and the body.
Mogomotsi, who designed and made the mini aircraft, said he bought the wings recently from South Africa and that they are now ready to be fixed to the craft. Other parts that he bought include Alt-metre to indicate how high the plane is, air speed indicator, inter-communication systems and headsets.
He said the two-seater machine with a 65 litre fuel tank, can go as far as 1 000 feet above sea level and can travel a distance of 280 kilometres per hour.
He said he designed the plane as an experiment so that he can in future design a bigger commercial or military aircraft.
